Gone mad.

I love this quote.  I wish I lived it.  But I yawn.  I say commonplace things.   

I always thought Jack Kerouac would be someone I would love to be friends with...you know, if we had lived in the same lifetime.  They describe him as an underground celebrity, novelist, poet, painter...and part of the hippie movement. 

He seeems kewl...to me. 

I need to put his books on my reading list; among them: On the Road, Doctor Sax, The Dharma Bums, Mexico City Blues, The Subterraneans, Desolation Angels, Visions of Cody, The Sea is My Brother, and Big Sur.

What an interesting life.  Full of wanderlust, passion and fire. 

Where are these mad people immensly invigorated by life?

Where are these people with an intense desire for more than the norm?

I have to find the fire. 

I must look for the mad.

Succulents


The pictures have been hung and the furniture project is coming to a close.  I've moved onto little things...details that just add a lived in feel to a place.  For me, plants....or for the girl with a black thumb...succulents.  



Beautiful and nearly indestructible...or so they say. 



The best known succulents are cacti

Virtually all cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti.
I have found they prefer bright light...are tolerant of much colder temperatures than one might think and I learned that they store water in their leaves, stems and roots.  


I also heard that Orchids were a good fit for someone like me....as the picture is proof...not so much...let's hope those indestructible cacti remain as is.

Fleur de sel...

I stood in line at Trader Joe's and thought of my dad. 

Caramels were his favorite...there were shelves full of them.  

And a reminder that the end of summer is near. 

 Labor Day often signifies the last weekend of summer...dommage.  

It seemed like endless caramels...I wish for an endless summer...I wish...I really wish...I could sit with my dad and eat salted caramels...and tell him about my summer.

This weekend the spectacle of the world was right outside my window...but, I chose to spend every minute alone...with my cats...enjoying the solitude...enjoying the peace...

Bella Fox, Charlie Martin and I took naps in the middle of the afternoon....Zzzzz


I caught up on the magazines that were piling up...and almost finished reading Gone Girl...you have to read this - I stayed up past midnight both nights unable to put it down.


I chilled out...I did my own thing...I loved every minute of it!

Just add water

I've always felt happiest when I am surrounded by water...perhaps I was a mermaid in a past life...or, maybe a pirate?



The vastness can make you feel small...and a little insignificant.  I read once that water is a symbol for emotions. And as I sometimes sit in silence...near the water...everything takes on emotions...the silence...the water...and all of my thoughts.

Weekend in review

I couldn't have had a better weekend.  Dinner at Chicago hot spot, Epic.  KEWL atmosphere with a roof top terrace and killer city views. 
Best part...my friends.  Aim, I'm still laughing...had so much fun!
With Vee arriving on Friday, I was on a mad dash to finish up some things on my furniture project.  Here is the new rug - looks wavy from being rolled up...hope that works itself out before Friday.  I got a new lamp shade as well.  Art on the walls Thursday!  Something about getting stuff hung on the walls that really makes it feel like home.

The weather on Sunday afternoon begged for a stroll through the Nature's Conservatory and the Lincoln Park Zoo.  I loved all these ducks takin it ease on the log...

Ended the night with drinks at a cool cafe on the water. 
What a great way to kick start the week.
